Greyhound of the Week – Arik

Greyhound Name – Prince Arik

How did you adopt your greyhound? I adopted Arik from Ashwells RGT in Brentwood, Essex.  I adopted him in March 2013 and taking him into my heart and home was the best decision I ever made. He loves his walks in the countryside, on the cliff paths and beaches of the Isle of Wight where we live.

Why did you choose to adopt a greyhound?  I have always wanted a big rescue dog and I chose a greyhound because they work hard for “human entertainment” and are then “retired” young when they have so much life left ahead of them and so much love to give. I feel really strongly about how they are sometimes treated if they are unfortunate enough to be with a trainer that simply doesn’t care. I believe all dogs should know the comfort and love of a forever home.

Any funny quirks that your greyhound has?  Funny or interesting quirks … well the thing that always surprises people is the fact that he belches like an old man. Most people have never heard a dog belch before. He has a good burp after every meal or when he is standing in front of you, watching you eat something – he will burp in your face in anticipation of getting a tidbit off your plate, whilst blowing bubbles out the side of his mouth. He also HATES getting wet. He even walks around puddles. If he is caught in a rain shower he will rub himself hard up against your legs in an effort to use your clothes as a towel.
